Supplier A-Frame

For the construction of the new Multi Purpose Vessel Rijnstroom, Van Wijngaarden Marine Services collaborates with Scaldon, a Dutch specialist in lifting equipment for the maritime and offshore industries. Scaldon is responsible for the design, engineering, production and commissioning of the vessel’s custom-built A-frame, a key piece of equipment that will support a wide range of offshore and subsea operations.

Scaldon specializes in customer-specific hydraulic and electric cranes, A-frames, and winches, all designed and engineered in-house. Every system is developed and calculated according to the latest standards and classification requirements, including those of DNV, Bureau Veritas and Lloyd’s Register. In addition to newbuild projects, Scaldon also provides inspections, repairs, overhauls, and testing of lifting equipment, supported by its own test foundation capable of testing cranes up to 1,500 tm.

What makes Scaldon’s contribution to Rijnstroom distinctive is the close cooperation with Van Wijngaarden Marine Services throughout the design process. During the engineering phase, the A-frame capacity was upgraded from 50 to 60 tonnes SWL while minimizing additional weight and structural loads on the vessel. Through smart engineering by Van Wijngaarden Marine Services and the shipyard, the A-frame foundation has been designed as a bolted installation, allowing the unit to be mounted on either the foredeck or the aft deck. This flexibility significantly expands the operational capabilities and versatility of the vessel.
