Between 1979-1980, the LINGESTROOM, together with the Vliestroom and Giessenstroom, was used for transportation of sand for the construction of a double-lane highway; the A7 in Hoorn in the province of North Holland.
History
On December 16, 1975, Friesland urged the House of Representatives to expand the road section between Den Oever and Hoorn into a motorway, in order to rapidly realise a highway between Leeuwarden and Amsterdam after the road section from Purmerend to Hoorn had been completed. In the House of Representatives Minister Westerterp committed himself to completing the A7 between Hoorn and Den Oever in 1979 for 650 million guilders. In 1981, the doubling of lanes between Medemblik and Wieringerwerf was a fact. What remained in North Holland was only the single-lane section between Medemblik and Hoorn. Especially for the road construction of the A7, the Lingestroom was fitted with a push bow, push winches and a raised wheelhouse at the then shipyard ‘De Holland’ in Hardinxveld.
