Preparing for the foreign naval visit in Amsterdam and the ‘World Port Days’ in Rotterdam, the Defensie Verkeers- en Vervoersorganisatie (DVVO) from Soesterberg sometimes called on the efforts of Van Wijngaarden Marine Services.
History
The DVVO could not always conduct its task using only its own equipment. Therefore the civilian market requested additional means of transport. All this occurred in accordance with the then procurement legislation and Defense policy. For this reason, the VLIESTROOM and the MERWESTROOM stayed overnight in Den Helder at jetty five. The next day they were able to prepare the transport to set sail via the Noord-Hollands Kanaal towards Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The complete transport included a mooring pontoon for a submarine, two walkways, fenders and three catamarans.
