The image shows the DINTELSTROOM captain accurately maneuvering the MP 1801 alongside the cutter suction dredger ‘Kallo’ (4,277 kW / suction depth: 20 m). An incoming container ship can be seen in the background.
History
The use of a cutter suction dredger endorses the suspicion that it may have been an ‘extension’ of the port of Livorno, Italy, located on the Ligurian Sea. In case of a ‘maintenance’ project, a trailing suction hopper dredger would have been used in combination with a ‘plow boat’. It may have been the large container ships that prompted the dredging project to restore this port / container terminal to sufficient depth.
