Around June, 2005, the developed design of the Shoalbuster 3009 type laid on the drawing board of Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld BV. Van Wijngaarden Marine Services was able to add thirty years of practical experience to this realisation. The client was given approval for construction.
History
On January 19, 2006, the time had come: the festive handover and christening of the new GIESSENSTROOM / bno. 571571. The hull was built in Kozle (Poland) and completed within fourteen weeks in Hardinxveld / Gorinchem. Partly due to the increase in scale, the Giessenstroom would no longer only be suitable for dredging assistence, but also for other markets, such as offshore jobs (sector: oil & gas). The first voyages after delivery of the Giessenstroom involved transport jobs, including a ‘linkspan’ for Vlissingen and Barrow-in-Furness, a dredger from Mallorca to Bourgas and a coaster (hull) from Ukraine to Norway.
