2011 – GOUWESTROOM

After a prosperous journey from Cuxhaven, the GOUWESTROOM arrives in the Eemshaven (Beatrixhaven) on Monday, April 4, at 02:00h. After a good nights rest, the crew gets to work preparing the next tow; a ‘double tow’ of crane vessel ‘Herik 22’ and work pontoon ‘Herik 33’. At 16.10h the convoy reverts back towards destination Cuxhaven, assisted by a local tug. This is the base of project ‘Buhnenbau Ottendorf’ on the Elbe. 

History
Various companies from the Netherlands and Germany collaborated on the Oeververdedigingsconcept project on the Nedersaksische bank. The work (Lot 1) included the making of 24 groynes. The entire operation took place from 2011 to 2013. A row of groynes, consisting of 18 groynes of different lengths, had to be placed over a length of approximately three kilometers of existing groynes (720,000 – 717,500 kilometers). Additionally, creating a row of groynes consisting of six groynes of different lengths, over a length of approximately one kilometer of the existing groynes (717,500 – 716,200 kilometers).
