The new AMERSTROOM vessel owes its name to the almost twelve kilometer long river the 'Amer', that flows through the province of Noord-Brabant. The river is the continuation of the 'Bergsche Maas'. It starts at Geertruidenberg - where the waters of the 'Donge' and the 'Spijkerboor' meet - and is the southern boundary of De Biesbosch National Park. The river flows into the 'Hollands Diep'.
