This new vessel was named after tidal river the 'NOORD' in Zuid-Holland, between the island of IJsselmonde and the Alblasserwaard. A very busy shipping route that connects the river crossing with the 'Beneden-Merwede' and the 'Oude Maas' near Dordrecht with the north side of Ridderkerk, where the 'Lek' and the 'Noord' merge into the 'Nieuwe Maas'.
History
On behalf of Van Wijngaarden Marine Services, Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld BV commenced the build of the latest model in its popular Shoalbuster series. Shoalbuster 3512 will be known as NOORDSTROOM / bno 571732 and can be deployed anywhere. Benefits of this new design include a larger bridge, a large working deck of 145 m², accommodation for eleven crew / passengers and a dedicated work area on board for the client. Propulsion is provided by three engines, with the middle engine complementing the two generator sets when additional power is required for the hydraulic deck equipment, such as the crane, winches and bow thruster. With a Bollard Pull of 61.6 tons (after modification of the propellers) and a draft less than three metres, the Noordstroom is invaluable at heavy towing work in shallow water. The vessel is able to transport seven standard containers (20 TEU), can be useful for diving, survey and dredging work and is valuable in the energy sector (oil & gas, offshore wind). Completion of the Polish-built hull again happened at the Hardinxveld and Gorinchem locations. The baptism and handover took place on April 28, 2016, in the municipal harbour of Boven Hardinxveld. The 'maiden voyage' for the Noordstroom occurred at the beginning of May with the 'Sauger III' on its towing line to Hamburg, after which various towing voyages followed.
