Keel laying marks important milestone in construction of MPV Rijnstroom

On 18 December, Van Wijngaarden Marine Services reached an important milestone in the construction of the new Multi Purpose Vessel Rijnstroom (MPV 4716 – DP2) with the laying of the keel at Kooiman Marine Group, the official build phase of the vessel has commenced.

In accordance with maritime tradition, a commemorative coin was welded to the keel. This symbolic act was carried out by the children Cas and Kurt van Wijngaarden and Fenna, Lodi and Hidde Janné, a moment that was warmly received by colleagues and guests present.

During the gathering, Peter van Wijngaarden and Rinus Kooiman reflected on the significance of this milestone and the positive cooperation throughout the project.

 “The keel laying of the Rijnstroom marks an important step for our company. From the early design phase onwards, we have experienced a very pleasant and professional collaboration with Kooiman Marine Group.
We are confident that this vessel will be a valuable and future-proof addition to our fleet,” said Peter van Wijngaarden.

The Rijnstroom is being designed as a modern and versatile Multi Purpose Vessel, tailored to support a wide range of maritime operations and to meet the latest standards in efficiency, safety and reliability.
The keel-laying ceremony was followed by an informal get-together with food and drinks, providing an opportunity to celebrate this milestone together and to look ahead to the next stages of the construction process. Van Wijngaarden Marine Services will continue to share updates on the progress, specifications and capabilities of the Rijnstroom in the coming period.
